As per the provision of ART (Regulation) Bill, a National Registry has to be created to ensure ptimal functioning of all the ART clinics and banks in the Country as a Central Database and helping them to take care of Infertility problem through practice of ART.
According to the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction, infertility currently affects about 10 to 14 percent of the Indian population, with higher rates in urban areas where one out of six couples is impacted. Nearly 27.5 million couples actively trying to conceive suffer from infertility in India.
Since 1980, the fertility rate for men in their 30s has increased by 21% and for men aged 40 years and older, the rate has increased nearly 30%. In contrast, the fertility rate in men younger than age 30 years has decreased by 15%. Age-related infertility will continue to be a problem.
Smoking and being either over-weight or significantly under-weight are known to have the biggest impact on fertility and the chances of conception. “Poor nutrition, increased BMI, smoking and excessive alcohol and drug use are major factors contributing to infertility.
